Reflo’s summer internship program was developed to offer experiential learning and personal growth opportunities related to the environment, climate education and justice, and sustainability for youth attending Milwaukee-area high schools. All learning is then applied and supported by various activities throughout the program, including green infrastructure maintenance present at a number of projects off-site. By supporting land conservation projects at Milwaukee-area schools and green spaces, interns are exposed to environmental career pathways and provided with meaningful opportunities to deepen their relationship with nature and hone their personal and professional skills in a supportive and fun work space.
Students in grades 9–12 and recent graduates who are interested in environmental sustainability, land conservation, and community engagement.
Interns will meet in-person 5 days a week from June 22 - August 14 completing ~35 hours per week.
Mondays: 1pm to 5pm and
Tuesdays through Fridays: 9am - 5pm
Pay: $15/hr
Internship Goals
GET HANDS ON EXPERIENCE:
Work on real community-based projects focused on stormwater green infrastructure, land conservation, and environmental stewardship that help support urban biodiversity, reduce flooding, and provide publicly accessible green space in our communities.
EXPLORE BLUE/GREEN CAREERS:
Learn about career pathways such as land conservation, community engagement, urban forestry, engineering and landscape architecture, construction administration, environmental education, environmental health and water quality, and more.
BUILD WORKPLACE LEADERSHIP AND SKILLS:
Gain real-world job experience with supportive mentors while developing teamwork, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
LEARN ABOUT SUSTAINABILITY:
Better understand how urban environmental systems work, how they can engage and benefit local communities, why maintaining green spaces is so important, and how they support climate resilience.
