Celeste Babitzke

Milwaukee High school of the arts

Hello, my name is Celeste Babitzke. I go to Milwaukee High School of the Arts, and am in the 11th grade. What brought me to the internship program was my own interest, and my interest in joining the program is to have a different kind of summer, not just being at home. Two things that I hope to get out of the program are to have knowledge and to live a healthier life in Milwaukee. My current interests in sustainability are living a good life. One cool thing I have learned about water or the natural environment is that playgrounds are changing into natural play spaces. Some recent accomplishments I have had personally or in school are I’m almost getting all A’s in classes. Ready more CAPT. Some extracurricular activities that I enjoy doing are walking, leg pulls, and workouts.

 

Isaac Santiago

Harold S. Vincent School of Agricultural Science

Hello, my name is Isaac Santiago. I go to Vincent High School, and am in the 11th grade. What brought me to the internship program was my school and I was looking for a job. So, here I am. My interest in joining the program is to learn new things everyday so I can tell others what I have learned. Two things that I hope to get out of the program are leadership, and fun working. One cool thing I have learned about water or the natural environment is you can restore rainwater and drink it. Some recent accomplishments I have had personally or in school are helping other people because that’s what I do. Some extracurricular activities that I enjoy doing are spending time with family and friends and hanging out or going somewhere we have never been.

 

Kenycia Minniefield

Carmen High School of Science and Technology

Hello, my name is Kenycia Minniefield. I go to Carmen High School - Northwest, and am in the 10th grade. What brought me to this internship program was my school's college and career program. My interest in joining the program is wanting to learn about the environment and wanting work experience. Two things that I hope to get out of the program are work experience, knowledge about the environment and how I can help keep it clean and healthy. My current interests in sustainability connect more with how to get a job and how it is in the workforce or how it is to have a job. One cool thing I learned about water or the natural environment is that I learned about how they clean water. Some recent accomplishments I’ve had are getting two paid internships. Some extracurricular activities that I enjoy are playing volleyball and art.

 

Khamarri Lee

Graduated from North Division High school

Hello, my name is Khamarri Lee. I just graduated from North Division High School. What brought me to this internship program was the job board at my school, but I’ve interned with Reflo before.  My interest in joining the program is to further my work experience and save up money for college. Two things that I hope to get out of the program are connections and development. My current interests in sustainability are anything water related. One cool thing I have learned about water or the natural environment is that barely 3 percent of Earth’s water is fresh. Some recent accomplishments I have had personally or in school are that I graduated from High School. Some extracurricular activities that I enjoy doing are walking, playing video games and sleeping.

 

Maurice Sheppard

Golda Meir School

Hello, my name is Maurice Sheppard. I go to Golda Meir School, and am in the 11th grade. What brought me to the internship program was a recommendation from a family member. My interest in joining the program is to be exposed to nature more as well as getting knowledge about environmental engineering. Two things that I hope to get out of the program are being more comfortable with nature, and getting a step on the career path I want for my future. My current interests in sustainability are the properties of water, and the amount of resources we use and how to not use too much. One cool thing I have learned about water and the natural environment is that there are plant species native to an area and that water is very important to almost every organism in life. Some recent accomplishments I have had personally and in school are moving on towards the future, as well as doing well in engineering class. Some extracurricular activities that I enjoy doing are basketball, and some football. In terms of nature, I enjoy tending plants in front of my home.

 

Phoebe Combs

Rufus King International High School

Hello, my name is Phoebe Combs. I go to Rufus King, and am in the 11th grade. What brought me to the internship program was a post on Google classroom by a teacher and my interest in joining the program is learning about green infrastructure in the city and a look into more career opportunities. Two things that I hope to get out of the program are an understanding of more career opportunities, and knowledge about how to be more green. My current interest in sustainability is climate change because of the increasing effects of that on our planet. Also, waste reduction because of how much trash is in the world that takes a really long time to decompose. One cool thing I have learned about water and the natural environment is that water has memory. Certain houses in Milwaukee will flood because there used to be a river there. Some recent accomplishments I have had are doing NHS, competing at forensics nationals, and getting a job. Joining the NHS is an accomplishment in school and the forensics job is personal. Some extracurricular activities that I enjoy doing are rock climbing, reading, playing soccer, mountain biking and playing guitar.

 

Shamora Johnson

Harold S. Vincent School of Agricultural Science

Hello, my name is Shamora Johnson. I go to Vincent High School, and I am in the 11th grade. What brought me to the internship program was getting back engaged with Reflo so that I can be busy during the summer. My interest in joining the program is getting to know different people. Two things that I hope to get out of the program are more interesting information, and learning about plants that I don’t know about so that I can tell someone else. My current interests in sustainability are water solutions and water pollution. One cool thing that I have learned about water and the natural environment is that it is important to our nature and that it can affect the community. A recent accomplishment I have had is getting my certificate in the high school sorority club I joined. Some extracurricular activities that I enjoy doing are through my sorority club.

 

Solomon Muliira

Burris Lab School

Hello, my name is Solomon Muliira. I go to Burris Lab School, and am in the 12th grade. What brought me to the internship program is just getting to work with plants, play in the dirt, as well as seeing parts of the community I grew up in and around. Two things I hope to get out of the program are new friendships,connections and better leadership and public speaking skills. My current interests in sustainability are possibly using software development/engineering to help sustain our environment and make this community easier to live in. One cool thing I learned about water or the environment is how to make a water barrel. Some recent accomplishments I have had are two consecutive 4.09 GPA semesters in school as well as a citizenship award. Some extracurricular activities that I enjoy doing are baseball and learning about software engineering/development and coding.

 

Sydney Harrell

Rufus King International High School

Hello, my name is Sydney Harrell. I go to Rufus King High School, and am in the 12th grade. What brought me to the internship program was my participation in the 2023-2024 school year Reflo internship. My interest in joining the program is to gain more work experience and gain more of an understanding on how I can help my environment. Two things that I hope to get out of the program are more work experience with healthy work habits for my future career, and more of an understanding of my environment around me and how I can help it. My current interests in sustainability are recycling and water restoration. One cool thing I have learned about water and the natural environment is learning about bioswales and how they can help the environment they are placed in.  Some recent accomplishments I have had are maintaining a 3.0 GPA for my junior year of high school, and earning awards in wrestling.  Some extracurricular activities that I enjoy doing are wrestling, video games, watching television, listening to podcasts and music.

 

Zion Carroll

Carmen High School of Science and Technology

Hello, my name is Zion Lloyd-Carroll. I go to Carmen High School, and am in the 11th grade. What brought me to the internship program was I heard about the internship through family and became interested. My interests in joining the program are doing things outside of my comfort zone, and challenging myself. Two things that I hope to get out of the program are communication skills and work experience. I currently have no interests in sustainability, but as the internship progresses, I’m sure that’ll change. One cool thing I have learned about water is that it always finds the lowest point. So, if your house was built on what used to be a river or body of water, you’ll be more subjected to flooding. A recent accomplishment I have had personally in school is winning a scholarship at school for an essay I wrote for the contest. Some extracurricular activities that I enjoy doing are nails, playing video games, painting, and taking my dog on walks.
