In 2009, River Revitalization Foundation acquired the former Wheelhouse restaurant site for $1.4 million with support from Wisconsin DNR and the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District. With the support of Rotary Club of Milwaukee, Argosy Foundation, Fund for Lake Michigan, and others, the urban land trust has since transformed this keystone site into a riverside prairie that connects the downtown Milwaukee via the Riverwalk to the south with the Beerline Trail and the Milwaukee Greenway to the north.
