Climate change means intense precipitation

Climate change means more intense precipitation for Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and the Great Lakes. For details on Wisconsin-based research, see the Wisconsin Initiative on Climate Change Impacts (WICCI).

On July 22, 2010, Milwaukee experienced an exceptionally intense storm. Flooding damaged the city. In its freakish severity, this storm provides a warning of the kinds of flashy precipitation expected as our climate warms. The video clips and links connected to the placemarks in this web map provide windows into different areas of Milwaukee walloped by the storm of July 22, 2010.

The storm also provided impetus to a wide range of green infrastructure projects throughout the city to improve our relationship with water. We invite you to explore in greater depth through the Milwaukee Community Map in Google Earth.
