“Lake Friendly Businesses” help reduce MKE’s plastic pollution

Click here for a full-screen map of Lake Friendly Businesses certified by Plastic-Free MKE.

Every year, 10.9 million pounds of plastic pollute Lake Michigan, harming human and environmental health. Volunteers, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and businesses throughout Milwaukee have banded together to form the Plastic-Free MKE movement and address the single-use plastics flooding our ecosystems and communities.

Plastic-Free MKE has developed the Lake Friendly Certification program for restaurants, cafes, bars, and breweries to help them reduce their single-use plastic. Volunteers audit businesses and help them transition to meet the certification criteria, all for free!

We invite you to explore the Lake Friendly Businesses in the web map below and through the Milwaukee Community Map, where you can toggle them on and off with other layers and basemaps.
